“Companioned by the Sea”
with David Peloquin
Thursday, August 6th, at 2pm
“Companied by the Sea” is a presentation of sea poetry, traditional sea songs and chanties, and contemporary songs of the sea. The setting is relaxed and interactive, which offers opportunities for the audience to ask questions during and after the presentation.
The readings are drawn from a variety of poets, including: Mary Oliver, Maine poet Wilbert Snow, John Masefield, Herman Melville, and Marjorie Howell, who wrote the sublime poem: Companied by the Sea.
David Peloquin is an internationally known interpreter of traditional songs of the sea. He worked at Mystic Seaport Museum for decades as an historic interpreter of sailor songs, chanties, and the life of the sea and shore of old New England. In 2000, his group Compass Rose played at the Kennedy Center for the Arts.
